RV Parks

Newport Beach does not have a plethora of RV Parks.  Your main option here is Newport Dunes which is in a fantastic location and has quite a few activities to choose from.  It really is an RV resort not just a parking lot like many of the others along the coast.  If you head up PCH just a little bit to Huntington Beach or down to you San Onofre you will find more basic options.

House Sitting

If you can be flexible with your dates and are patient enough to find something in your ideal location this might be perfect for you.  Some of the homeowners request that you pay for utilities, but many are free in exchange for caring for their home and often their pets.  There are several companies out there that facilitate the process.  Some favorites are:

House Swapping/Home Exchanges

Rather than spending your hard earned dollars to stay in a hotel or vacation rental, you can swap homes with someone else.  Here’s a great article on AOL that gives a little bit more information on it and a blog that has some great info as well.   The gist is that you join one of the many home swapping sites, post information and pictures about your home, search for homes you are interested in, and then contact the other homeowner.  It usually takes at least 3 months to find a “match” and sometimes swaps are arranged a year in advance, so this is something you would not do at the last minute.  Some of the more popular home exchange organizations are:

Home Exchange – Home Exchange is one of the largest sites with over 42,000 listings in almost 150 countries.

Home Link – Started in 1953, Home Link International has over 13,000 listings in almost 90 countries.

Intervac – Also founded in 1953, Intervac has over 30,000 members.

Diggsville – Has been around since 1999 and has several swaps available in the area.

There are also a few sites that have directories of the home exchange services including Camago and Find The Best .

I would suggest looking at the directories and some if the site above and choose the site that has the most listings in Newport Beach.

Couch Surfing

Couch surfing is fantastic for those on a budget and who don’t mind sleeping on someone’s couch or in their spare room.   Your host can provide valuable information about the area and is usually eager to show you around.  It is a fantastic way to make new friends!  For more information about Couch Surfing, please check out their website.
